Netflix's Pride & Prejudice: A Gift Guide
Share
Pride and Prejudice returns on December 3, this time as a six-part Netflix series with Emma Corrin as Elizabeth Bennet and Jack Lowden as Mr. Darcy. Some of us will watch all six episodes in one sitting. Some of us have opinions about the 1995 lake scene that we will share whether asked or not.
Whichever you are, here's how to make premiere night, and the gift season around it, a little more like Longbourn.
For the reader who is, frankly, Elizabeth
She walks three miles through the mud and laughs at everyone, herself included. Give her the line Lady Catherine meant as an insult: the Obstinate, Headstrong Girl Crewneck. If she'd rather quote her own best line, there's My Courage Always Rises, her reply to Darcy at the pianoforte at Rosings.
For the one who has already chosen Team Darcy
Ten thousand a year and the manners of a hat stand. We love him anyway. The Barely Tolerable Mug is for anyone who has never quite forgiven the Meryton assembly. For the evening pour, there's the Fitzwilliam Darcy Rocks Glass.
For the romantic who skips straight to the proposal
"You must allow me to tell you how ardently I admire and love you." The first proposal goes badly and the second one doesn't. The Most Ardently Ornament is engraved crystal for the tree, and a lovely first-Christmas gift for a couple.
For the friend who would live at Pemberley if allowed
Elizabeth admits she first loved him on seeing his beautiful grounds. No one blames her. The Elizabeth Walking to Pemberley Throw is the right weight for six episodes on the sofa. Home Sweet Home Is Pemberley says the rest.
For the one who identifies, quietly, with Mary
She practised, she read, she was overlooked. The Mary Bennet Society Crewneck is for the bookish sibling who has heard every extract you were going to make.
For the hostess of the watch party
Light the Netherfield Ball Candle at the start of episode one, pour tea into the Mr. Darcy at Pemberley Mug, and save one seat for whoever arrives in the Lady Catherine de Bourgh Crewneck to tell everyone what they are doing wrong.
A note on timing
Every Inkwell & Pen piece is printed to order, so please allow about two weeks for production and delivery. To have your gifts in hand for December 3, order by mid-November. For Christmas, the earlier the better. Mr. Darcy was never one to rush, but the post office is busier than Pemberley.
